AT Molex to SATA Power supply cable

Generally, true AT Molex to SATA Power supply cables DONT exist. This is because the AT connector does not supply 3V, SATA does. Luckily most SATA devices don’t use 3V. So you can get by with omitting this pin, which is what most commercial adapters do. The picture below shows a Molex connector should be wired to a SATA connector to provide 5 and 12v supplies. On the SATA side I relied on the cable colouring being standard. Though it would be more sensible to get out a multimeter and test them against the pinout.

Do you not mean “Generally, AT Molex to Full SATA standard Power supply cables DONT exist, rather the current cables/adapters ommit the 3v which typically isn’t needed.”

Otherwise it sounds as though I have a draw of aparently non-existant adapters!

Personally, if I make these up, I pull apart the SATA plug and press them into the destination cable – no soldering needed – just pliers.

You could probably put a variable resistor inline…

    THANK YOU!!!
I was fixing a friend’s mom’s PC this morning (Replacing power supply)
and found myself with an impossible wiring situation
Replacement power supply’s power cables were too short to hit both drives, so I have to convert the molex power cable into sata
I found this site, just verifying I had the pinout right, and then read your comment about opening up the sata power connector to wire it directly and not make splices
    GENIUS!
Thanks a million dude, so often the simplest answers evade us
    🙂
